Anne Ornish: What’s in the way, is the way.  It can be helpful to remind ourselves that the ‘stumbling’ stone along life’s path is often also the ‘stepping’ stone. Although stress and suffering can be an inevitable part of the human experience, how we relate and respond to the ‘potholes’ of life is our choice.  At one time or another, we’ve all experienced that despite changing our job, our relationship, even where we live — the same pesky patterns of discontent tend to emerge again.  Why is that?  It’s actually quite liberating to recognize that the one common denominator is typically—You!

Let’s experiment now with a mindfulness practice designed to reveal this insight. Let’s begin by coming back into your body. Establish a comfortable sitting position that’s tall in the spine, yet grants overall ease and support.  Fully inhabit your body with a genuine curiosity.  Allow your breath to flow slowly, fully, naturally and rhythmically for the duration of this practice…

Hold a space for stillness and inner quiet. In the beginning, you’re likely to notice the inevitable and incessant tides of thoughts and feelings that come and go for a while. No matter how savory, simply witness them, and let them pass as if you’re simply an objective observer. You may make a peripheral ‘note to self’ for later if that helps you to clear your thinking mind.  Sift, settle and let it all go.

For now, allow yourself to soften into your essence here without judgments, invite the presence of your most wise and loving self that lies within you to emerge and expand.  Eventually, after allowing the mind to settle, a mirror reflection of your true self is revealed. Ask this presence to bring to light what shift you can make in your life that will result in a sustainable, deeply meaningful manner.

Take a moment to ask yourself, ‘what am I not paying attention to that I need to understand? ‘  Honesty, patience and trust are required.  Your reward, when the blind spots are removed, is a less encumbered, more empowered you!  Source here as often as you like, the presence of your essence is always available, all knowing, and omnipotent.
